Geranium is a pretty stone cottage which sits in a colourful flowering garden in the village of Afife on the northern coast of Portugal. Lovingly restored by the owners, this delightful holiday house enjoys stunning sea views and provides a tranquil base for exploring the area.

Description

Afife is a tiny, particularly well preserved village with a fort, on the northern coast of Portugal. This little stone cottage stands on the edge of the village, but in peace and quiet. Its small (approx 60m2) garden of geraniums is completely private. The house has been restored with taste and is well equipped. The views from the balconies of both bedrooms are superb; the green fields and beyond them the sea, only 700 metres away. The beach, the shops and the ‘Mariana’ restaurant are only 15 minutes walk; the latter is famous for its sea bass. The house is in a wonderful part of the Minho. The charming little town of Caminha, on the Minho river is only some 12km up the coast and from here you can take the ferry across the river to Galicia. Inland the scenery is lovely; follow the river Minho upstream to the Parque Nacional de Geres or the coast road down to the interesting town of Porto. For many, the main attraction is the miles of white sandy beaches nearby.

The cottage has been tastefully decorated and furnished. From the garden you enter into a hallway which opens onto the kitchen on the right. This has a microwave as well as a gas cooker and fitted cupboards. To the left of the entrance hall is a living room at one end of which is comfortable seating in front of a coffee table and a fireplace; French windows open onto the garden. At the other end of the room is a dining table to seat 6. Stairs rise from the living room to the first floor landing off which are two bedrooms; one with a double bed and one with two single beds, and each opening onto a balcony with plenty of room to sit out upon and with west facing views to the sea. There is a shower room/wc off the landing. Outside there is a garden of about 120 sq metres.
