The house is situated in pretty pastoral countryside, in the Bearn, the largest of the old Pyrenean states. In the field next door are sheep and hens - you can help yourself to fresh eggs. You really are in the countryside with great views all around, but the nearest shops are only 5 minutes drive. Hagetmau, located 10 minutes drive from the house, has a local market twice a week, a 9 hole golf course, a tennis court, some excellent restaurants plus ferias and summer entertainments with traditional music. You can feel the strong festive culture of Pays Basque even in the tiniest villages that are dotted amongst along the woodland and pasture which form the first ripples of the foothills of the Pyrenees which are fantastic for walking. For those who like fishing, a number of lakes are around, and for swimming the Atlantic beaches are just one hour away.

This is a very special house for those who love nature and tradition. It has been very carefully converted by its owner who has managed to bring lots of comfort whilst retaining its original character. You enter the house into the kitchen and you feel like being in the 19th Century with an antique butcher block and copper pans hanging along the walls; but it is 100% modern and fully fitted with dishwasher, oven and microwave. Off the kitchen is a simple shower room with washing machine plus dryer, and a separate WC. From the kitchen, you enter the dining room with table and chairs and an impressive stone fireplace; on one side is a charming space arranged like a french bistro with a bar, table, chairs and French window to a terrace. From the dining room is a door to a sitting room with sofa, armchairs, piano and satellite TV. The entrance hall still has its original massive wooden door.

Access to first floor can be either via the hall or via the kitchen. On the first floor are two bedrooms, both with a double plus extra single bed, a shower room/WC, and a double bedroom with a TV and en-suite bathroom/WC. On the same level is a bathroom/WC, and a bedroom with single bed plus extra pull-out bed which has a lounge area with TV, video and DVD.

Outside is a lovely courtyard around which the house has been built. There is a new 9m x 3.5m swimming pool (depth 1.1m - 2.2m) with steps and a raised stone surround; you have nice views here across unspoilt countryside. In the garden is a small fenced off pond decorated with flowers. The house has telephone and central heating.  The property also offers a gym fitted in a separate outbuilding which includes a bike, a running machine, a multipurpose weight machine, an abdominal exercise bench and free weights; up very steep wooden stairs is a small sitting area. There is a ping pong table and a few bicycles will also be left at your disposal. In addition there is also a sauna which can be used for an additional 30 Euros per week.
