Between vineyards, sunflowers and maize, the landscape undulates revealing the best of countryside around St Genis and also along the Gironde estuary. The village of St Genis offers good services including several shops and two restaurants, but you should definitely explore some of the surroundings: we particularly recommend the Gironde coast on this part of the estuary – it is certainly the nicest. The coastal villages of Talmont and Meschers are fun to explore and are on the way are to Royan. Also less famous but worth seeing are the small ports of Mortagne sur Gironde or Port Maubert – ideal for strolling around for half a day with a possible stop in one of the restaurants or bars in front of the pleasure boats. This area is more than anything the Cognac area and many producers will welcome you into their vineyards for tasting and buying. If you prefer wine, Blaye is very close and has easy access via the coast.

A peaceful haven where we could totally relax
By SALLY NIXON
We loved our stay here at the beginning of Sept 2012. A lovely welcome from the very helpful Didier, who was nearby if we needed anything at all. The villa is in a very quiet, private location right out in the countryside, surrounded by fields of corn, sunflowers, and vines, but within an easy drive of towns, beaches etc. We loved sitting by the pool with an aperitif, watching the sun go down over the cornfield by our pool, swallows putting on a private show for us as they swooped down over the pool, then we would cook food on the barbecue and enjoy the delicious tomatoes, herbs and courgettes picked from the garden beside the pool - heaven. We didn't want to leave and hope to be back.
Fantastic villa, wonderful host, love to go again!

The villa is really beautifully restored and was a pleasure to stay there. The villa owner was a fantastic host. He went out of his way to accomodate us. Very picturesque countryside surrounding the hamlet as well.
Excellent

What a lovely surprise it was to turn up at such a beautiful villa...we were greated very warmly by the owner and shown round the property before being left to settle in. Beautiful swimming pool with plenty of sunbathing space. Beds were very comfy, everything you could possibly need in the kitchen. Plenty of tv channels. Very quiet location and so peaceful, it was the perfect holiday setting to truly relax. The local town was about a 3 minutes drive away, little market stalls selling fresh produce. The major supermarket was about 10 minutes drive away. The owner was extremely friendly and very informative. We would deffinatly stay there again. The owner also had no problem with letting us check out late which was great.
